The Fallacy of Favoring Gradual Replacement Mind Uploading Over Scan-and-Copy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mind uploading speculation and debate often concludes that a procedure described as gradual inplace replacement preserves personal identity while a procedure described as destructive scanand-copy produces some other identity in the target substrate such that personal identity is lost along with the biological brain. This paper demonstrates a chain of reasoning that establishes metaphysical equivalence between these two methods in terms of preserving personal identity.

Whole Brain Emulation and the Evolution of Superorganisms
Many scientists expect the eventual development of intelligent software programs capable of closely emulating human brains, to the point of substituting for human labor in almost every economic niche. As software, such emulations could be cheaply copied, with copies subsequently diverging and interacting with their copy-relatives. This paper examines a set of evolutionary pressures on interacti...
متن کاملCoalescing Minds: Brain Uploading-Related Group Mind Scenarios
We present a hypothetical process of mind coalescence, where artificial connections are created between two or more brains. This might simply allow for an improved form of communication. At the other extreme, it might merge the minds into one in a process that can be thought of as a reverse split-brain operation. We propose that one way mind coalescence might happen is via an exocortex, a prost...
متن کاملDynamic Provenance for SPARQL Update
While the Semantic Web currently can exhibit provenance information by using the W3C PROV standards, there is a “missing link” in connecting PROV to storing and querying for dynamic changes to RDF graphs using SPARQL. Solving this problem would be required for such clear use-cases as the creation of version control systems for RDF. While some provenance models and annotation techniques for stor...
متن کاملRay Kurzweil and Uploading: Just Say No!
There is a debate about the possibility of mind-uploading – a process that purportedly transfers human minds and therefore human identities into computers. This paper bypasses the debate about the metaphysics of mind-uploading to address the rationality of submitting yourself to it. I argue that an ineliminable risk that mind-uploading will fail makes it prudentially irrational for humans to un...
متن کاملThe Semantics of the Goodness and the Ugly
There are different views concerning the meanings of the most important ethical concepts such as the goodness and the ugly. The author of this article while classifying various views and explaining them, tries to make a critical study of those views as well. Accordingly, first he goes on to examine critically the theory of emotionalists as one of the most important non-cognitive theories. Th...
